$500 Beginner Camera Setup

daniellemayesphoto

I had a friend ask me once what type of camera she should buy if she had $500 to spend. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

If you're interested in learning photography and have a similar budget, here are my recommendations!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

- Look for a Canon 5D Mark II on eBay or Facebook Marketplace. Since this model is fairly old, there are a lot of good options in the $300 - $400 range. Despite the fact that it is an older model, it has a full-frame sensor, which means it can take gorgeous, high resolution photos.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

- Grab a Canon 50mm 1.8 EF lens. New ones sell on Amazon for around $125, but again you should be able to find great, more affordable options on other sites. The lower 1.8 aperture will allow you get shallow depths of field, where your subject is in focus and the background is blurry.

This was the first camera body and lens I purchased when I was starting out, around nine years ago. It's a great option for learning to shoot in manual mode, and it lets you get a feel for whether or not you like photography without a huge upfront investment! 📷
